Patagonia - Punta Tombo

This is a good insight into the "landscape" of Patagonia - there is absolutely nothing to see left and right of the road!
Punta Tombo is the largest penguin colony outside Antarctica. Half a million Magellanic penguins breed here between September and April.

Ops, what looks like a mole actually is a penguin sticking out of his nest!
What I found interesting is that these penguins actually do not only nest close to the water as I would have expected it. As you can see here their colony expands far beyond the beach into the hinterland. By the way, in the backround (but too small for you to see on these pictures) are some guanacos grazing.
