Final conclusion about this country:

1) I am very glad that I did Egypt as an organised tour and with a group of people. I’ve seen more than I would have ever done by myself, we had a great time together and it is definitely NOT a country for women travelling alone.

2) There is military, police or heavily armed guards all over the place, which can be quite intimidating sometimes.

3) When you travel budget, beware of bugs in the beds!

4) This time of year (April/May) turned out to be excellent for travelling in Egypt. It was not too hot (except for Luxor and the desert) and after a little while you get used to the mix of sweat, sunscreen and mosquito repellent on your skin…

5) Usually, the food was good, although after three weeks a little repetitive. Generally no problem to find vegetarian options.

6) The Arabic version of Top Gun does not include the love scene between Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis - how did Egyptian kids of the 80s learn what a French kiss is???

7) People (mainly men) are smoking ALL the time and EVERYwhere. I never thought there was a place worse than Spain but there is.

8) Cairo is everything you’ve ever heard or read about it: mainly loud, crowded and dirty.

9) Otherwise, Egypt is a country with a lot of different faces: bustling cities, tiny villages, isolated deserts, beautiful sea life, colourful mountains, unique cultural heritage and ancient traditions. It was amazing to explore.

10) Last but not least, as much as there are harassing men there are annoying flies in this country!
